blow molding plastic tool box

The Ryobi LINK Modular Storage System combines many different aspects of tool storage into a versatile, portable solution. The LINK Modular System comes in Ryobi’s green, gray, and black color scheme and includes wall storage, rolling tool storage, organizers, and more. It includes both stationary and portable storage solutions. Clearly, this is Ryobi’s answer to the Milwaukee Packout, but at a much more affordable price for consumers.
Ryobi sent me a variety of Link products and accessories to use in my garage. This gave me the opportunity to test a wide range of products at once. Read on for my overall thoughts on the matter, as well as my reviews of the various components.
For those who travel to and from the job site, the Ryobi Link Rolling Tool Box is made of aluminum, plastic, and steel, making it easy and safe to transport tools and accessories. It doesn’t add much weight—the base box alone can hold up to 200 pounds of tools or materials. The Ryobi LINK Rolling Tool Box features 9-inch wheels, dual interior organizers, built-in drill bit storage, and retractable handles. You can stack two or three linked organizers or tool storage boxes on top and roll them wherever you need them.
Based on LEGO-style flying components that snap together horizontally, Ryobi LINK also includes tool racks and wall-mounted storage solutions. When mounted horizontally, it can be used to mount or secure ladders, shovels, power tools, outdoor power equipment, and more. When mounted vertically, you can mount the entire Ryobi LINK tool box to a wall or attach it to a work cart shelf.
The system is completely modular and scalable beyond most other solutions. The modules can be assembled together and attached to a wall or surface with screws. They also support 16″ and 24″ center stud installations. It’s a very flexible system and I always like having options.
The individual modules also work together, allowing you to expand vertically or horizontally as needed with metal hangers, tool racks, metal shelves, tool boxes and more. This allows you to expand your storage solution to any size you need for your garage, shed, car or workshop.
I created a LINK wall system that is 6 units high by 3 units wide (some pieces were removed to install storage cabinets). It is about the same size as our original 9×9 store packing wall and holds many of the most commonly used accessories and fixtures.
I also installed a Ryobi LINK wall system in the shed for hanging outdoor electrical equipment, extension cords and accessories.
Ryobi LINK offers a variety of metal and plastic tool racks and shelves. Some have doors, while others are open and feature side shelves for hand tools or bottom shelves for power tools. Some models support hanging up to four tools upside down (with or without batteries).
The top of the shelf is great for storing tools (we store our Ryobi bug zapper on the sturdy shelf). The side brackets on the organizer are perfect for hanging screwdrivers and/or wrenches.
Other shelving options include solid shelves and wire shelves that give you a flat surface to store tools or accessories. A lockable and opening tool organizer can accommodate drills and screwdrivers, while also leaving room for chargers, batteries, and other accessories.
You can attach individual trays to a wall-mounted system or take along a small parts organizer that’s perfect for storing screws and nails.
The LINK wall cabinets give me a place to store all the cleaning supplies I need for my car wash. I love the magnetic closure and the sturdy metal plate construction. The only thing I wish they would have done is allow the system to be mounted on more than one wall rail. In fact, I had to remove two rails to get the shelf to fit properly on the system. Some extra diamond cutouts on the back would have solved this issue and given the system more configuration flexibility.
You can install a heavy-duty steel tool rack anywhere in your system. These tool holders are ideal for hanging hair dryers, hedge trimmers, and anything that can be secured with one or two hooks. Most metal hooks can hold up to 50 pounds. The smaller double-ended J-hook can hold up to 15 pounds.
No Ryobi LINK modular tool storage system would be complete without a wide selection of tool storage boxes. I used large, medium, and small boxes, as well as a few organizers. Ryobi even makes drawer systems, a variety of tool bags, and soft-sided coolers.
These boxes use the latest heavy-duty fasteners that I really like. These fasteners are an improvement on some of the first generation steel fasteners I’ve seen on products like the DeWalt TStak system. These boxes are really strong, and the design makes it easy to customize the interior with different organizers and dividers.
You won’t be able to resist the cool color scheme either. I’ve always been a fan of black tools and tool boxes – they look cool. Plus, these tool boxes can be mounted directly to the Ryobi LINK wall mount, so you have a scalable system that’s perfect for the garage, workshop, or even your work truck.
The Ryobi LINK system is priced well below what you would expect from similar products from Milwaukee or DeWalt. So if you are looking to build a powerful system for your garage, you can save a lot of money. Ryobi also offers some great starter kits for $129 and $169, which contain 15 and 20 pieces, respectively. They also have add-on kits with extra parts and guides.
The tagline for the Ryobi LINK modular storage system is “Have your space.” Given the width and depth of the system, and how quickly it has grown since its launch, I think there’s a good chance they have a garage and workshop.
The system can handle almost any application you throw at it, and Ryobi continues to expand LINK with more accessories. Hopefully, the system will continue to expand and evolve, providing more flexible solutions.
I wish they had more flexibility in the use of their cabinets so they could be hung on existing LINK walls. I also wish the LINK panels actually interlocked when installed on studs or block walls for better reinforcement and strength. Other than that, it’s really hard to find anything to complain about. I highly recommend this system to anyone looking to improve their storage and organization skills.
